Entry requirements

Entry requirements are not meant to be a barrier to gaining entry to a course at Carrick Institute of Education. They are in place to make sure thaEntry requirements are in place to make sure that all those who do gain entry to our programs have the minimum skills and abilities they require to be successful in their studies. Carrick Institute of Education wants to ensure that the students enrolled in their programs will not struggle or have difficulties with their studies.

Outlined below are the entry requirements for international students intending to undertake vocational study at Carrick Institute of Education.

Vocational education entry requirements for international students

Applicants require one of the following:

  • secondary studies in home country equivalent to an Australian Year 12 qualification
  • senior Secondary Certificate of Education in Australia with a satisfactory pass in English
  • completion of a recognised foundation course in Australia with a pass in all subjects.

Mature age entry (aged 21 years or more) is available for applicants without minimum education requirements who can demonstrate an ability to undertake the course through interview.

Additionally, all international students whose first language is not English require one of the following:

  • an IELTS band score of at least 5.5 or equivalent internationally recognised exam result in line with DIAC regulations
  • satisfactory completion of the Carrick EVE (English for Vocational Education) course
  • satisfactory completion of six weeks of ELICOS at upper intermediate level
  • satisfactory pass in the Carrick Vocational Entry Test.

Please note: All documents that are presented on application for certified enrolment at the institute must be translated into English.

Overseas Student Health Cover

All international visitors to Australia under a Student Visa are required by law to have Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC). Students are required to pay for OHSC prior to arriving in Australia.

On enrolment all international students must pay a fee for health insurance in accordance with the length of their course. Carrick Institute of Education forwards payment and application on behalf of new students to Medibank Private - Policy Information

Students are covered by the OSHC from the day they arrive in Australia, until the end date of their visa.

Please note: Medibank Private may take up to five weeks to process applications and send Medibank Cards to the institute. Any students with health problems who are yet to receive their card are advised to see a doctor, pay for the consultation and ask for a receipt for the service. Medibank Private will reimburse the money for the consultation when you produce the receipt.

Provision for Language, Literacy and Numeracy Support

The language, literacy and numeracy needs of all individuals are important for the successful completion of our courses. To support students in this area, the institute provides a range of English Language courses and free support English classes for the duration of each student’s studies.

ESOS Framework

Training organisations who appear on the Commonwealth Register of Institutes and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS) register are governed by the Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) framework. This includes a number of legislative pieces, including the ESOS Act 2000 and the National Code of Practice for Registration Authorities and Providers of Education and Training to Overseas Students. These regulations are in place to protect overseas students and to uphold high quality standards within Australian education institutes.
